Inlay Restorations

Inlays are fillings that are custom-made, usually from gold, composite material, or tooth-colored porcelain. The most popular are porcelain inlays, as these are the most natural-looking; long-lasting and durable, they are cemented into the patient's tooth.

Where teeth have been damaged by trauma, decay, or defective fillings, inlays are a conservative option to repair problem areas. Unlike crowns, for which a fair amount of tooth structure must be removed in preparation, inlays are less invasive; they're also a good alternative for patients with composite or silver fillings.

Inlays, like many dental restorations, may require replacement many years down the road; they are, however, extremely durable and long-lasting. Their functions include:
- Repairing fractured or large fillings
- Repairing fractured, broken, or decayed teeth
- Cosmetically enhancing your smile

Like many conservative restorations, inlay procedures are usually performed over the course of two visits. A patient's first visit includes taking accurate molds in order to create a temporary restoration, followed by the permanent inlay. The dentist numbs the area, removing and cleaning out the damaged or decayed part of the tooth. After preparing the surface, a temporary filling is fitted to the tooth.

For the following visit, the temporary inlay is replaced by the new custom-made inlay. Our dentists always make sure that it is precisely cemented in, so that the patient's bite feel natural and comfortable.

Dental office in Milton always provides patients with care instructions following their treatment. We encourage proper oral hygiene, good diet, and regular visits to the dentist; all this will help prolong the life of your inlay. Please don't hesitate to contact dentist in Milton if you're seeking inlay restoration service on the South Shore.
