Porcelain Crowns, or Caps - What Are They?
A cap is a special thin casing that covers a tooth's entire surface in order to restore its original size and shape. When fillings are not enough to restore a tooth, a crown can protect and strengthen tooth structure.
The most popular type of crown is porcelain, as it is tooth-colored and most closely resembles a patient's natural teeth. The tooth is numbed, and the decayed or damaged area is cleaned out; the temporary crown is adhered and the patient's bite is checked.
