Dental Cleaning and Prevention
Learn about the the superior care and recommended dental practices for our patients in Milton, Quincy, Holbrook, and the South Shore.
Dental Cleaning
Your regular cleaning appointment at dental office includes a dental exam with the following services, performed by our registered dental hygienists:
Plaque removal - crucial to the prevention of periodontal disease, this process removes the plaque that can lead to gum inflammation. Plaque is a sticky film that forms on teeth over time that, without proper cleaning, gives way to bacterial growth.
Calculus (tartar) removal - this hardened form of plaque can form above and beneath the gums. When plaque is left on the teeth for long periods of time, it hardens on the surface of the teeth and becomes especially difficult to remove.
Tooth polishing - the final step: an overall cleaning and removal of any remaining stains and plaque.
Dental Exams
At your first visit to dentist in Milton, we perform a comprehensive dental exam. This and future dental exams performed by the dentist and hygienist will include:
Diagnostic x-rays, or radiographs - these x-rays are essential to detecting any decay, cysts, tumors, or bone loss, as well as determining the position of the tooth and roots.
Gum (or periodontal) disease check - we evaluate the condition of gums and bone, checking for signs of inflammation, infection, or disease.
Tooth decay exam - teeth are thoroughly checked for any decay with our state of the art dental technology. Assessment of existing restorations - we take a look at any crowns and fillings you may already have.
Oral Cancer Screening - a crucial check to screen for any potential signs of oral cancer (includes gums, tongue, lips, throat, tissues, face, and neck). |
